Feast of the Juul
03:23
|
|||
dressed up like billy-goats
bring plays door to door
young people parade
as they take porridge left lest milk curdles and sours
leaving gifts they say
we’ll be scattering ash and it’s blessings for the twelve nights of juul
through the meeting and the laughing
and the tellings of heroes and fools
we watched the oaken log burn
for Odin’s son’s strength
for Freyr’s bounties return
twelve days and twelve nights of renewal
at the feast of the juul
kept under the bed the oak ash it is said
keeps Thor’s thunder at bay
his lightening though frightening
is exciting remindings
of our yule log ablaze
we’ll be scattering ash and it’s blessings …etc
the boar is a-roasting as yule goat comes joking
the wild hunt rides inflamed
as sunwheels roll turning and bonfires are burning
welcome lengthening days
we’ll be scattering ash and it’s blessings …etc

Rack & Ruin
03:22
|
|||
the wanderlust came knocking
knocking at her door
familiar of the traveller
that scholars cruel reward
when the moment comes it comes in silence
silence of the owl
nights predatory wisdom councils time
the time is now
before the rack and ruin comes this well-thumbed chapter ends
before the rack and ruin comes she runs rising through the fells
rising through the fells
the song you leave is not yourself
just part of who you hoped to be
the joy is in the journey and of discovery returning
she flees a dreadful magic
magical entropy
crying Rumpelstiltskin as the spell's glamour recedes
there's freedmen in her leaving
leaving Priam’s walls
her futures interceding
she makes her own rewards
before the rack and ruin comes etc…
there's a golden river flowing
flowing through her hands
dimming seeds of dreaming counting hourglass sands
yesterday keeps repeating
repeating clichéd prose
her loyalty is tinder dry and begging to explode
before the rack and ruin comes etc…

Looking for a Mountain
03:34
|
|||
i went looking for a mountain
to climb above the rain
i went looking for a mountain
to rise high above the rain
and when i've met that mountain
i will climb back down again
i went looking for a good friend
to pass the time of day
i went looking for a good friend
to while away the day
and when i've met my good friend
i'll come back home again
i flew across the ocean
hoping that i'd find
i flew far across the ocean
trying hard to find
but on that side of the ocean
i missed those very things i'd left behind
i went looking for a mountain
to climb above the rain
i was looking for a mountain
to rise high above the rain
and when i met that mountain
i will climb back down again
yes when i've met my mountain
i will climb back down again

King Rat's Lament
02:44
|
|||
you say that you love him
and adore all the things that he does
he leaves you feeling unusually fecund
or maybe drunk
he’ll tantalise you with glimpses
of a life full of blushes and thrust
but see through that shallow vain front
and there’s a cant
he’s a cant
a fecking cant
see through that shallow vain front
‘cause he’s a cant
he may offer you stories
of tempting interspecies conjunct
but decipher his lexiconical stunts
and the attractions defunct
he’s a cant …etc
still you say you won’t leave him
he’ll come back ‘cause your life’s on a cusp
but really?
now let’s be blunt
he’s a cant
he’s a cant …etc
